Job Summary:

To ensure operational capability for delivering business-as-usual results within Absa Ghana RBB function. Leading and achieving exceptional performance through effective leadership. Accountable for the Core RBB Sector across the country.

Key Accountabilities:

People Management Time Split: 45%

  • Build, develop, and motivate a high-performing team.
  • Ensure team members reach their maximum potential, coaching them to identify strengths and development needs.
  • Assist in recruiting to fill personnel gaps.
  • Manage daily attendance levels within the Region.
  • Manage poor performance and escalate disciplinary/grievance issues professionally.
  • Be a role model for the team, leading with passion and enthusiasm.
  • Create an empowering environment encouraging individual ownership, initiative, and challenging the status quo.
  • Manage performance of Managed Services Staff.
  • Provide coaching and feedback on new initiatives.
  • Discuss and finalize Performance Development Plans and ratings.
  • Determine and manage Training Needs Analysis.
  • Draft succession plans for all team members.
  • Identify talents and create development opportunities.
  • Ensure timely exit interviews and address issues.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing numbers for efficient service.
  • Motivate staff and ensure recognition through Absa schemes.
  • Maintain discipline within the team.

Operational Control Time Split: 10%

  • Achieve operational rigor excellence and ensure satisfactory audit results.
  • Ensure compliance with operational risk and rigor requirements.
  • Raise reports on all risk events.
  • Understand Group and ARO Policies and Standards.
  • Manage risks and incidents in adherence to the Group Risk and Control Framework.
  • Communicate practices and controls required by Policies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Maintain procedures for monitoring compliance with Policies.
  • Ensure independent oversight of risk performance.
  • Achieve audit and assurance targets.

Driving Business Direction Time Split: 25%

  • Understand and bring to life Absa Bank Ghana RBB mission, brand, and strategy.
  • Develop strategy/policy and ensure achievement of Absa Africa Strategic Priorities.
  • Own “RBB owned” support functions.
  • Lead and Sponsor RBB Change Initiatives.
  • Visit RBB customers periodically.
  • Provide clear direction on Sales/Service business objectives.
  • Champion cultural change for consistent Sales, Customer Service, and operational rigor.
  • Create inclusion and involvement in Retail and Business Banking initiatives.
  • Provide leadership to colleagues in Retail, SME, and Commercial within the region.
  • Actively participate in communications, products, and services from all arms of RBB.

Teamwork Time Split: 15%

  • Embed a “one team” culture with back-office staff.
  • Work together with the Director Personal Banking, RBB Regional Managers, and other RBB Heads.
  • Provide clear direction on RBB business objectives.
  • Shape segment propositions and marketing for performance growth.
  • Act as a key interface with senior stakeholders within Absa Africa.
  • Lead and Sponsor RBB and Absa project initiatives.
  • Drive synergies between Personal, Commercial, and SME.

Self-Time Split: 5%

  • Agree on performance development objectives.
  • Pursue self-development for personal effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular branch visits to assess operations and customer service.
  • Embed a customer-centric culture within the region.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and local business partners.

Role/Person Specification:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key RBB customers and organizations.
  • Responsible for direct oversight of sales and service activities of Retail and Business Banking team.
  • Responsible for aggregated revenue and balance sheet growth in both branches and SME banking portfolios.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Graduate caliber with approximately 10 years of experience in business management.
  • Experience in managing teams.
  • Proven knowledge of Ghana Consumer Market.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of modern trends in consumer banking.
  • In-depth understanding of RBB and Absa services, Local Business, and Corporate overview.
  • Good understanding of Absa Ghana strategy, operating structure, and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of RBB and Absa risk policy.
  • Understanding of RBB and Absa business processes.
  • Understanding of technical support systems for RBB and Absa.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of competitor and local market activity.
