Role Overview

The role involves overseeing the management of the ORACLE and MS SQL Database Platform at Vodafone Ghana. Daily responsibilities encompass various aspects, including:

• Configuration Management
• Administration Management
• Storage, Backup & Recovery
• Technical Support
• Coordination of Testing and Deployment for New Components
• Providing Level 1/2/3 Technical Support Across the Database Estate
• Accountability for Planning and Small Project Delivery
• Decision-making for Database Stability during Instability
• LRP Responsibility for the Vodafone Database Environment

Role Responsibilities

1. Technical Expertise and Decision Making:
   • Provide expertise and decision-making support for DB system environments.
   • Coordinate efforts of technical staff to meet Vodafone’s IT DBA needs.
2. Consulting and Project Management:
   • Offer consulting in requirements definition, specification, design, development, and integration of systems and database management.
   • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending.
   • Manage deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of IT database systems.
3. Issue Resolution and Oversight:
   • Investigate and resolve escalated issues within Database environments.
   • Review tests, integrations, and solutions of less experienced personnel on larger projects.
   • Establish principles and standards related to distributed Database environments.

Additional Responsibilities

• Communication and Collaboration:
  • Work with key Vodafone vendors to understand technical roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Infrastructure, Head of Architecture & Strategy, and CIO.
• Presentation and Innovation:
  • Present technical/specialist information to senior managers.
  • Produce innovative solutions for operational excellence and efficiencies.

Professional / Technical Competencies

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred.
• Experience:
  • 7 or more years of Database administration experience.
  • 2 years in a technical management capacity.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with MsSql and Oracle Support.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with database Clustering.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART).
• Skills:
  • Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions in a fast-paced environment.
