Your Role and Contribution
As a Crane Operator, your primary responsibility will be the safe and effective operation of various crane types in alignment with equipment specifications and operational guidelines. You will also support rigging activities and perform essential maintenance to ensure the machinery operates efficiently. Your work will directly contribute to the smooth execution of lifting operations on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Crane Operation
- Operate cranes under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, ensuring compliance with all safety and operational protocols.
- Execute related tasks such as completing checklists and reports according to standard operating procedures.
- Use crane controls to manage speed and direction in response to verbal, written, or hand signal instructions.
- Position, lift, and place heavy equipment or objects within crane capacity limits.
- Load and unload trucks based on operational needs.
- Set up stabilizers like blocks and outriggers to maintain balance while handling heavy loads.
- Respond to guidance from riggers or spotters for safe crane movement.
- Plan and organize your work schedule independently, while assigning and verifying the tasks of riggers when needed.
- Ensure that tasks assigned to riggers are completed accurately and on time.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Conduct and document monthly machine inspections.
- Assist in preparing for tasks and carrying out routine crane maintenance and minor repairs as instructed.
- Ensure all load certifications and tests are current to meet legal requirements.
- Keep cranes and lifting equipment in safe working condition.
- Accurately fill out job cards, maintenance summaries, and required documentation.
Health, Safety and Environment
- Follow Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environmental protocols to perform tasks safely.
- Regularly inspect equipment to identify and report potential hazards.
- Participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training sessions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Certifications
- Valid crane operator license or certification.
- MINCOM Operator Certificate of Competence is an added advantage.
Knowledge Areas
- Familiarity with crane operation and rigging safety standards.
- Understanding of general maintenance principles and industry practices.
- Knowledge of work planning and execution processes.
Experience

At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating cranes in a mining or industrial setting.
Technical Competencies
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to calibrate cranes using load cells for precise lifting.
- Experience operating crawler cranes and RBT cranes to handle heavy machinery.
- Familiarity with overhead hoists for lifting components such as motors, gearboxes, and pinions in the mill area.
